Leon isn’t an ordinary man. Once, in Montenegro, he was an exceptionally talented instructor at the best fighter pilot school, affectionately nicknamed Top Gun 🙂 There, he taught young pilots how to master the most demanding aircraft and extreme situations. He was a top fighter jet pilot and later an instructor! With impressive precision, focus, and responsibility.
But then, one day, came a diagnosis that would have crushed the spirit of many in his place: type 1 diabetes.
In an instant, he was grounded. He could no longer fly, could no longer teach, and his daily life turned into counting carbohydrates, dosing insulin, and constant vigilance.
He was at the peak of his career – and then everything stopped.
But Leon didn’t let the diagnosis destroy his life. Trained never to give up, he turned a new page with the same fighting spirit.
For many years, he managed his blood sugar very well with insulin pens, but over time, dangerous hypoglycemia episodes began to appear, including several serious incidents that ended in a coma.
That’s when he made a key decision: first, he switched to the Veo, and then to the most advanced Minimed 780G insulin pump.
Leon with the Minimed 780G insulin pump – life with diabetes without complications
The result? He never experienced a coma again. No more severe hypoglycemia. Thanks to the Minimed 780G, his nights are peaceful, glucose levels stable, and his quality of life – incomparably better.
“Sometimes I forget I even have diabetes,”
Leon says. The insulin pump took over most of the control, allowing him quality sleep, safety during the day, and – freedom.
Today, he is a happy and fulfilled man. He lives in a beautiful small coastal town near Split, where he leads a successful business and social life. He also breeds Doges – noble and strong dogs that mean more to him than just pets. They are his daily inspiration and driving force.
He makes premium canopies for yachts, boats, and sailboats – a job that demands creativity, precision, and passion.
“Every person with diabetes should have a dog!” he says with a laugh. “Thanks to my dogs, I’m active every day. They force me to go outside even when I don’t feel like it – and physical activity is extremely important for managing diabetes.”
The dogs, he says, also provide emotional support. They sense when he’s feeling worse, bring him calm, but also joy. Thanks to them and technology, Leon lives the life he wants – free, fulfilled, and stable.
Because the diagnosis could have taken away his career…
But it didn’t take away his happiness, strength, or joy for life 🙂
After the diagnosis, he could no longer fly – but today, he’s living life to the fullest again! 🙂
Conclusion
Modern technology can help people with type 1 diabetes regain control over their health and life. Although the diagnosis may temporarily stop dreams and plans, with proper therapy and support, it’s still possible to live actively, freely, and with optimism 🙂
