Why Green Cola May Be a Healthier Option for People with Diabetes

06/10/2025

If you are one of those who drink nothing but water, just keep it that way and feel free to skip this text. 😊 For everyone else: Green Cola is becoming an increasingly interesting alternative to classic soft drinks for people with diabetes, since it contains no sugar and is sweetened with desirable stevia.

People with diabetes have to be mindful of their diet, especially the intake of all types of sugars. Too much sugar causes blood glucose to spike; then we overload ourselves with insulin which pushes the sugar down too much, and so the cycle continues. The result is poor diabetes control, complications, and weight gain.

That’s why our choice of drinks is limited — and it’s great to know that Green Cola exists.

Green Cola has no aspartame

Besides being sugar-free, Green Cola also contains no aspartame. 😊 We won’t go into whether aspartame is harmful or not, as there are many conflicting opinions. What’s certain is that Green Cola doesn’t have it.

Green Cola has no phosphoric acid

Phosphoric acid, present in regular colas, has been linked in scientific studies to lower bone density, increased kidney strain, and higher risk of heart disease. Green Cola doesn’t have it, which reduces the intake of such additives and the potential long-term health risks.

Studies published in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2006 and Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation, 2011.

A tip for safe enjoyment

Although Green Cola is free of sugar and phosphoric acid, it is still an acidic carbonated drink, so moderation is important.

Green Cola has stevia!

Stevia is a natural, zero-calorie sweetener which, according to the experience of people with diabetes, does not raise blood sugar or insulin. That’s why Green Cola is a good alternative for people with diabetes and for anyone who wants to enjoy the taste of cola without the harmful effect of refined sugar.

Just recently, researchers from Hiroshima University discovered that fermented stevia extract can be used against pancreatic cancer without damaging healthy cells, potentially making it more than just a simple calorie-free sugar substitute. 🙂

For those who prefer orange, this flavour is also available:

Conclusion

Green Cola is available in major supermarkets and retail chains across Europe and worldwide, offering a fresher and healthier alternative to classic soft drinks. It delivers the familiar cola taste, but without sugar, calories, or artificial ingredients, and with a natural source of caffeine.

It’s an excellent choice for anyone watching their diet, wanting to avoid unnecessary additives, but still enjoy full flavor. People with diabetes, those with celiac disease, or anyone on low-carb, keto, or paleo diets will especially appreciate it. 😊
